How to print private documents with HP printers

There are often times when students, staff and faculty need to print private documents to shared printers.  Every network printer across campus has the capability to hold jobs until you enter a PIN to release the job.  This ensures documents will not print until you are physically present at the printer.

  1. After you select File > Print or when the print dialog window is open, choose Printer Properties (some applications call it Preferences).  The print dialog window is the same window where you may select the printer of your choice.
  2. At the Printer Properties window, select the Job Storage tab.
  3. Under the Job Storage tab, select Personal job and check the box to make the job private as shown below.  You may choose to enter a 4 digit PIN, which you'll need at the printer.

  4. Select OK to close the properties window. You may now select Print.
  5. At the actual printer, press the green check button to enter the menus.  The first option should be Retrieve Job, so press the green check button again to view held jobs.
  6. Select your job from the list and you will now have to use the keys on the control panel to enter your PIN.
  7. You will have the option to either print or delete your job.
